Key traffic data for 2005
Montpellier, which had been one of the aiports that suffered the most in France
from the difficult economic conditions of the previous year, has succeeded in recovering
its profits considerably, with a summer period that attained positive traffic results.
Also this summer, the airport recorded 251,251 passengers for the months of
July and August 2005 alone, or an increase of 4,51% in comparison with summer 2004.
this increase is due in part to the maintaining of good results for existing destinations,
and also, the Montpellier Airport, always in search of new influxes, has encouraged
aerial company initiatives. The opening of new line with the Sterling Company
to Copenhagen and Nowegian to Oslo contributed largely to this summer's
positive results.
Nevertheless, Montpellier, whice had strengthened its traffic to the Maghreb region
of North Africa with the addition of Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca
and the return of summertime weekly flights by Air Algeria to Oran and Alger,
once again suffered the consequences of the bankruptcy of an aerial company :
Air Horizons, in November.
Air France's inauguration of the Montpellier-Lyon route in October
stabilized traffc for the airport, which is now linked to the Lyon hub via three
daily links to45 destinations, 19 of which are European.
Following these events, traffic registered a drop of 1.60% for the year 2005,
or around 21,148 passengers, basically due to the loss at Paris Orly
of almost 50,000 passengers (-6.4%), of which only half were recovered by the TGV.
