Destination Tenerife
Succumb to the beauty of South Tenerife, the sunniest and most spectacular part of the largest of the Canary Islands. Protected by the volcanic massif of Teide, it benefits from an exceptionally mild and dry microclimate all year round, making it an ideal refuge for lovers of wild nature and sunbathing.
Here, contrasts are constant: in just a few kilometers, you go from golden beaches lined with palm trees to lunar high-altitude landscapes, from white villages clinging to cliffs to thousand-year-old pine forests bathed in mist. South Tenerife captivates with its diversity. On the sea side, modern beach resorts sit alongside wild coves and authentic volcanic beaches. On the land side, traditional villages like Vilaflor or Masca preserve a well-preserved way of life, while Teide National Park offers dizzying hikes in an almost extraterrestrial setting. Between relaxation, exploration and generous cuisine, South Tenerife promises an escape rich in sensations, accessible to all and surprising every time.

Exploring Tenerife
South Tenerife unfolds like an open book where each chapter tells a different story of the same island. So, together, let's turn its most beautiful pages!
At the heart of everything, Teide National Park reigns as absolute master. This volcano rising to 3,718 meters is both the highest peak in Spain and one of the most impressive natural wonders in Europe. The landscape is lunar, almost unreal, with its frozen lava flows, multicolored rocks and spectacular geological formations like Los Roques de García. Climbing to the summit (with authorization) or simply walking the park's trails provides a unique sensation of grandeur and humility in the face of the forces of nature. The pure air, silence and view of the archipelago create an almost spiritual experience.
Descending towards the coast, the Los Cristianos and Las Américas region offers the beach resort face of South Tenerife, with its developed beaches, lively seafront promenades and complete tourist infrastructure. "Far from being superficial, these resorts allow you to enjoy a calm sea, varied water sports and a dynamic nightlife, while serving as an ideal base camp to explore the island," recommends Helena, an island resident.
More authentic, the coast from Costa Adeje to El Médano holds surprises: black or golden sand beaches, discreet coves like La Tejita, and a relaxed atmosphere. El Médano, in particular, is the haven of kitesurfers and windsurfers, with its bohemian atmosphere and spectacular sunsets.
Inland, perched villages like Vilaflor, the highest village in Spain, or Masca, clinging to the cliff face in a dizzying canyon setting, invite you to discover a rural Tenerife, preserved and deeply endearing. The winding roads leading there cross Canarian pine forests and terraced agricultural landscapes that testify to the ancestral work of the inhabitants.
Travel advice: Bring warm clothes if you go up to Teide, even in summer: altitude radically changes things. On the other hand, on the coast, swimwear is sufficient practically all year round. Rent a car to explore freely and don't miss the scenic routes, each bend reveals breathtaking views.

Must-see places to visit in Tenerife
- Teide National Park: Natural monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Teide National Park offers breathtaking volcanic landscapes, accessible and/or challenging hikes, and fortunately, a cable car to access dizzying heights! At the end of the day, the colors change radically, going from gray to pink, orange then purple... This permanent spectacle alone justifies the trip. A word of advice: to climb to the very summit of the volcano, remember to book your permit online several weeks in advance.
- Barranco del Infierno: Spectacular canyon near Adeje. This relatively accessible hike leads to a refreshing waterfall at the end of a route between rocky walls and lush vegetation. Warning: the number of visitors is limited each day: booking required in exchange for guaranteed tranquility.
- Masca: Pretty village perched in a wild western setting. Traditional houses clinging to the mountain, dizzying views over the ravine below. The path that descends to the sea (6 hours round trip) is one of the island's most legendary hikes. Reserved for experienced hikers, but absolutely memorable.
- Los Gigantes: What can we say about these dizzying cliffs plunging into the Atlantic, 300 to 600 meters high? A sense of excess guaranteed. More relaxing, several boat trips allow you to admire these stone giants from the sea, sometimes with the chance to spot dolphins and pilot whales that frequent these waters...
- La Tejita Beach: Long golden sand beach, wild and preserved, located away from the major resorts. Ideal for recharging, walking barefoot and enjoying an invigorating sea without the crowds.

Cuisine in Tenerife
South Tenerife's gastronomy combines Canarian tradition and Spanish influences, all enhanced by quality local products.
- Papas arrugadas con mojo: Essential small wrinkled potatoes cooked in seawater, served with the famous mojo sauces (red spicy or green coriander). An absolute classic that accompanies almost all dishes!
- Conejo al salmorejo: Rabbit marinated in a spicy sauce made with chili, garlic, paprika and vinegar, then simmered for a long time. This traditional dish of Canarian families, generous and flavorful, reveals all the authenticity of local cuisine.
- Pescado fresco a la plancha: Simply grilled fish of the day: vieja, red porgy, wreckfish or sea bream. Sober accompaniment, frank flavors. The very essence of Canarian maritime cuisine.
- Queso asado con mojo: Grilled local goat cheese, topped with mojo. Simple, melting, slightly smoky. A delight as a starter or tapas, often served with figs or tomato jam.
- Bienmesabe: Traditional dessert made with almonds, honey, lemon and egg yolks. Creamy texture, sweet and comforting taste... A treat! In our view, it's absolutely perfect to finish a meal with a typically Canarian sweet note.
- Wines of Tenerife: The vineyards of the south and north of the island produce surprising wines, particularly around the Abona appellation. Local grape varieties like listán negro produce fruity red wines, while whites reveal a beautiful mineral freshness. This wine discovery deserves attention.

Unusual experiences in Tenerife
- Observe whales and dolphins at sea: The waters off South Tenerife are home to a resident population of cetaceans. Several companies offer respectful boat trips, some certified for their ethical approach. A moving encounter with marine life.
- Hike in the La Esperanza forest: Forest of thousand-year-old laurels and Canarian pines, often shrouded in mist. Shaded paths, deep silence, impression of walking in a prehistoric setting. A total contrast with volcanic and coastal landscapes.
- Dive in the Palm-Mar marine reserve: Protected seabeds, excellent visibility, abundant fauna of turtles, rays and colorful fish that evolve in crystal-clear waters... Why deprive yourself? Accessible to beginners and experienced divers alike.
- Watch the sunset from Teide: Go up in late afternoon and stay until dusk. When the sun disappears below the horizon, the colors set ablaze the sky and the sea of clouds below. A magical and timeless moment, to experience at least once in your explorer's life.
- Explore the Chío caves: These volcanic tubes are less frequented than those in the north, but just as spectacular. Guided tours allow you to understand the island's geological formation and walk in the volcano's entrails.
- Taste tapas in a guachinche: These improvised family restaurants, often set up in old cellars or garages, serve ultra-authentic home cooking accompanied by local wine. Friendly atmosphere, low prices, true flavors.

Teide is a world-renowned astronomical observation site. The purity of the sky, the absence of light pollution at altitude and exceptional climatic conditions make it one of the best spots on the planet to contemplate the stars. Several scientific observatories are installed there, and night excursions allow the public to admire the celestial vault in optimal conditions. A magical experience that transforms a day of hiking into a cosmic journey.
