Destination Frankfurt
Located on the River Main, Frankfurt is the city of economic success, Germany’s most international city. Colourful, lively and bustling, Frankfurt has been a key hub for international trade since the Middle Ages. First made famous by its market fairs, the city's importance increased tenfold when it was chosen as the election site for the German emperors. After the complete destruction of the city during the Second World War, Frankfurt was able to rebuild itself to take its current central position in Germany and become a modern, forward-looking city.

Explore Frankfurt
Goethe's city boasts a unique blend of world cultures and languages, and is home to the headquarters of the European Central Bank.
The financial and commercial capital of Germany, Frankfurt is also a major scientific centre with its research institutes, as well as having great cultural ambitions with its university, opera, theatres and an ever-growing number of museums.
The city's surroundings also offer an exceptional range of landscapes and cultural sites. Among them, Kirchberg, in the Rhineland-Palatinate District, is a must-see if you're staying in Frankfurt! You'll be fascinated by the history of the Celts and the Romans, and the counts and princes of the Middle Ages who shaped the region's image. Many of the villages near Kirchberg have kept their original charm. As well as half-timbered houses, many historic monuments bear witness to a rich and eventful past.
The next destination of choice is Heidelberg, a university town (twinned with Montpellier) 90 kilometres from Frankfurt, with its beautiful surrounding mountains, picturesque houses and narrow streets. A historic student town, Heidelberg has managed to make a real asset of its rich heritage. Even today, Heidelberg remains the temple of Romanticism, the ultimate destination for the solitary dreamer, like the many artists who found creative inspiration on the banks of the Neckar, on the edge of the Odenwald Forest…
